 AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

To keep your hair looking fabulous it is important that you follow simple maintenance and aftercare steps.  Please remember that your new hair extensions are only guaranteed if you follow these important aftercare guidelines and use specific hair extension products only.  If you don't follow the correct aftercare, you may start experiencing problems with your hair extensions which could potentially damage your own natural hair.

Sleeping

  1. To prevent hair from knotting while you sleep, I suggest that you tie your hair in a loose side plait or ponytail.

  2. Avoid using elastic bands.

  3. The extensions may feel uncomfortable for the first few days. The "tight" feeling usually eases up after 1 or 2 washes

  4. I recommend the use of a silk or satin pillow case if your natural hair gets easily tangled, this type of material helps prevent any knots occurring overnight.

  5. Hair nets can also be used whilst sleeping.

  6. Never go to bed with your hair extensions damp/wet as mould can grow in that environment.

Holiday

  1. Sunbeds are fine as long as a towel is wrapped around the head

  2. Avoid chlorine and sea water as they can alter the colour and or leave them feeling knotty/dry.

  3. High buns and top knots work well as the hair can be kept out the way.

  4. If you are new to hair extensions, then I would advise you have them fitted at least 2 weeks prior to going on holiday so that you can get used to them and adapt to your new routine.

  5. The sun can leave hair extensions dry so apply hair extension conditioner regularly.

  6. Thermal defence sprays also offer added protection against UV rays just like your own hair.

  7. Be careful not to get tanning oil onto the hair extensions as it can alter the hair shade in some cases.

Dyeing Hair Extensions

It is often possible to colour human hair extensions, although with the wide variety of colours available, this is not always necessary.  If possible, avoid colouring hair extensions, as this could damage the hair and reduce its lifetime.

Always perform a strand test before dyeing hair extensions, as the colour may not match as you expected, and can prove to damage the hair quality. Avoid applying dye directly to the bonds/strips.  The bonds/strips should never come into contact with the dye.

Brushing & Styling

Always use a Hair Extension brush, as apposed to a ball tip or hard brush as these can catch on the hair extensions which can cause many issues with both the natural hair and hair extensions.

Start brushing at the mid-length of your hair, hold each section for support just above where you are brushing and brush downwards towards the ends.  Do not exert excessive tension.  Continue the process and brush sections higher up the hair shaft each time.  When close to the roots, put your hand over the extensions to support them. Never brush the hair when it is wet and only use a wide tooth comb to ensure the hair does not stretch or weaken.

It is very common to lose strands when brushing and you could expect to loosen strips over a month to 2 month period. Maintenance is important, so make sure you get booked in every 5-7 weeks

100% Human Remy Hair Extensions can be curled, straightened and blow dried just like your natural hair, however, you should never put a hot straighter or curling tong over the actual bond/strip as this will weaken or melt them.

You should not wear your hair too tightly for the first 2 weeks.  This will cause discomfort and in some cases breakage where they have been applied. You can wear low slung ponytails/plaits if you wish to tie your hair up in the first 7 days.

Washing

Following application, leave at least 48 hours before washing your new hair extensions.  Before washing, always brush hair to avoid tangles and matting.   STAY AWAY from High Street Shampoos & Conditioners! No matter how good you think they may be.  Remember, you are now wearing hair extensions, and you need to use only Specialist Hair Extension Shampoo & Conditioner.  A specialist hair extension shampoo & conditioner MUST be used during the entire time you wear your hair extensions.  This specialist shampoo & conditioner has a low PH value and should contain no harsh chemicals.

Shampooing

  1. Separate the extensions and brush out any tangles prior to washing.

  2. Apply hair extension shampoo to wet hair.

  3. Gently massage the scalp with your fingertips, using a downwards zigzag motion (avoid circular motions as these can cause tangles and matting).

  4. Rinse thoroughly.  Repeat as necessary.

  5. Do not be surprised by the extra weight.

  6. DO NOT wash hair lying down in the bath if there are bath products in the water, i.e bubble bath, soap etc, and DO NOT wash hair with head upside down in the basin, as hair can become tangled.  ALWAYS wash hair with head up right using a shower head.  This will avoid tangling and matting.

Conditioning

  1. Apply PLENTY of hair extension conditioner to wet hair (avoiding the bonds).

  2. Using gentle finger strokes, smooth conditioner from mid lengths to ends, leave on for a good 5 mins.

  3. Rinse thoroughly with luke warm water.

  4. Squeeze out all excess water from the hair from the top to the bottom as hair extensions retain moisture and can take a while to dry.

Conditioning Hair Masks

For extra conditioning, apply conditioning hair masks once a week.  Smooth through mid-lengths and ends.  Leave for 10 minutes, rinse thoroughly.

Hair Oil/Leave in Conditioner

Massage argan oil or leave in conditioner to damp hair and gently comb through to ensure all strands are covered evenly, then wrap hair in a towel for 5-10 minutes.  Apply to mid-lengths and ends when you want to boost shine.

Drying

Preparing your hair for drying is important.  After the hair has been washed and the towel removed, use a wide toothed comb to remove tangles.  Starting at the mid-lengths of your hair, hold each section to support just above where you are combing and comb downwards towards the ends.  Do not exert excessive tension.  Comb sections higher up the hair shaft each time.  When you get close to the roots, put your hand over the extensions to support them.  Do not comb over the extensions.

Drying Your Hair Naturally

You can dry your hair naturally but you must ensure that all knots/tangles are removed first and its usually wise to dry the roots with a hair dryer as this area takes longer to dry.  Please ensure that you use plenty of conditioner after shampooing.

Drying Your Hair Extensions With A Hair Dryer

  1. Pat dry the extensions.

  2. Separate the extensions by running fingers through the hair.

  3. If hair is tangled, use a wide toothed comb and support the roots.

  4. Dry the roots thoroughly and rough dry the hair with a hair dryer, ensuring the nozzle is removed and the end of the hair dryer does not touch the hair.

  5. Once the hair is virtually dry use the hair dryer to style or you can use the straighteners to finish.

  6. You can also blow dry the hair extensions by splitting into sections and using either a paddle brush or a very soft round brush, please be careful not to excessively pull on the roots as this can cause hair-loss.  Set hair dryer to
    medium to low heat

Maintenance Appointments

Maintenance appointments are VITAL for keeping your hair extensions and your natural hair in good condition, and appointments are required every 5-7 weeks, (individuals may vary),   If you choose not to listen to your stylist’s advice on maintenance appointments, this could result in your hair extensions not lasting the expected lifespan. If you fail to attend or miss any of your pre-booked maintenance appointments, then this could lead to your hair becoming tangled and matted. Hair extensions require extra care and attention, and attending your maintenance appointments on time and on a regular basis will ensure their longevity.  Maintenance appointments are booked in as 2 hour slots, therefore, clients must give at least 48 hours cancellation notice.
